Seniors Match Report

Cheddar 14 v North Petherton 21

Cheddar Seniors made the short journey down the M5 to lock horns with North Petherton. The weather conditions were appalling and got progressively worse as the game went on. However, some fine handling from the backs enabled John Smith to evade 2 tacklers to score the opening try for Cheddar under the posts. Patrick Cullen added the 2 points. The sides were very evenly matched and the game flowed from end to end. Duncan Craig, Niel Campbell and Andy Underwood were all having strong games and the tactical kicking from John “The Ledge” Carter was superb. However, Pethy worked the ball to their backs who managed to score a fine try which they converted to leave the scores 7-7 at half time.

The second half was more of the same. Nobby Clarke, Phil Morris and Gwynn Roberts all showed grit and determination to take the game to Pethy at every opportunity. Patrick Cullen was making fine yardage with the ball in hand and Ross Farrell was having a great debut for the seniors. Some excellent Cheddar pressure enabled Steve Lorimer to capitalise on a handling error to score another try for the visitors. However, Pethy levelled the scores fairly quickly and a draw looked on the cards. That was until Pethy brought on their secret weapon in the centres, a lad with more pace than Usain Bolt, who duly scored in the final minutes to leave the visitors gutted. A great game though and another great fixture for Cheddar Seniors.
