End of Season Success for U13's

Winscombe                               10

Yatton & Cheddar Barbarians      17

The Barbarians triumphed over Winscombe in their last game of the season. A hard game on an equally unforgiving pitch saw Winscombe take the lead after 5 minutes with a surging run from halfway. It took a while for the Barbarians to settle but they managed to hold fast from Winscombe pressure and equalised with a quick ball from scrum half Jack Masters, moved across the backs and eventually finding wiger Harry East in support to take the ball and drive over the line.

With Barbarian spirits raised, they took control from the restart and with a move that started from a ruck situation saw the ball once again, recycled quickly across the Barbarians back line for Centre Kieran Gibson to charge his way through, avoiding several tackles and score between the posts. A conversion from Mike Gane bought the first half to a close.

The second half saw Winscombe come out fighting and they pressured the Barbarian pack from the outset. A constant barrage saw the Barbarians hold fast but a good move from Winscombe enabled another 30 metre run to the tryline for their second try. The increased effort and hard ground seemed to take its toll on the Winscombe pack and the Barbarians turned the screw once more and began to dominate the game. A disallowed try 10 minutes from the end did not deter the Barbarians and with both teams tiring a searing run from prop Tom Patch made enough ground for him to pop the ball to supporting James Newton Brown to go over for the last try of the game and sealed the match.

A great final performance from the Barbarians with an outstanding effort from all players. The Barbarians will be a team to look out for next season as the combination appears to go from strength to strength.

Super Sunday

Cheddar Rugby Club enjoyed a fantastic day on Sunday when they were treated to one of Bristol Rugby’s Super Sunday experiences. The morning started under a moody sky but this didn’t dampen spirits of the players who enjoyed coaching sessions from Bristol’s Community department coaches. Players from 6 to 16 were drilled in a variety of different sessions and the excellent coaches held the attention of the players despite the worst the weather could throw at them. After a bite to eat and time to warm up, the 180 strong contingent from Cheddar loaded onto coaches and set off for Bristol to watch the British and Irish Lions Cup match against Heriots FP. Another fine win by Bristol topped off the excellent day out with the Cheddar masses being well looked after by the Bristol club. Tired but smiling Cheddar players loaded onto the coaches for the journey home where the boys sneaked a win in the “mini game” with a couple of classics at the last minute.
